Welcome to Oakland Bay Junior High for the 2019-2020 school year! We are excited to be working with you this year as we work to provide the best education and opportunities for your students that we can.
Two important events we want to make sure you are aware of:
Open House Night – “Junior High Palooza” - Tuesday, September 10th. At Open House you will be able to pick up schedules, meet teachers, make purchases, sign up for activities and athletics, and much more! We will have a community involvement fair with many groups and organizations around Shelton that serve middle school aged students.
7th Grade families: 5:00 – 6:30 PM
8th Grade families: 6:30 – 8:00 PM
First Day of School – Monday, September 16th
In order to help our students experience a smooth transition to the middle school, the first day of school, Sept. 16th, will be an orientation. Both grades of students will come to school for just half a day on day one.
7th grade: 7:55 AM to 10:45 AM. Students can ride regular bus routes to school in the morning, and their buses will take them home starting at 10:45. If you are providing transportation for your student, please plan on picking them up at 10:45.
8th grade: 11:45 AM – 2:30 PM. Buses will pick students up on their regular routes about 4 hours later than normal. Students will take their normal bus routes home. If you are providing transportation for your student, please have them to school between 11:30 and 11:45 AM and pick them up at 2:30 PM.
Parents are asked to please call the bus garage to set up their child’s route for the school year.
This modified schedule will allow students to learn the OBJH expectations in a smaller and more relaxed setting. Students will spend orientation with their advisory teacher. During their session we will offer lunch as part of our orientation. The cafeteria staff will be serving food for students who want to eat school lunch, or students may bring their own food. We will also be taking school pictures on the first day of school.
The second day of school, Sept. 17th, will be a regular school day for all students: 7:55 AM - 2:30 PM.
